ELLA MAE SHAMBLEE LIBRARY and CULTURAL CENTER CITY OF FORT WORTH
The Ella Mae Shamblee Branch Library and Cultural Center is the centerpiece of the Evans and Rosedale Historic Cultural Revitalization District. The Tommy Tucker Grammar School Building was the City’s first primary school for African-American students; it was renovated to serve as a museum/ performance/meeting hall. This is connected to the new “state of the art” media center which features adult, youth, and children’s reading areas; audio visual, research, and resource processing areas; as well as an exquisite art gallery. The building complex is comprised of dynamic forms executed within a palette of contextual materials including metal panels, glazing, and contextual masonry. The outdoor reading areas, a main street orientation, and pedestrian friendly atmosphere are a delight to all who visit this facility.
