THE LOUISE WATLEY LIBRARY AT SOUTHEAST ATLANTA ATLANTA-FULTON PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM

The design for The Louise Watley Library at Southeast Atlanta is centered around an open-plan concept which seeks to incorporate the essential public and separable functions such as Meeting Room, Conference Room, Café, and vending outside the Lobby. All other functions are placed in a rectilinear high-bay space. The plan is organized along a main north-south axis which intersects an east-west axis at the circulation desk. The Children’s Library is located on the west side of the main axis and is adjacent to the Staff Area along the west façade. The Adult Area is located on the east side of the main axis, while the Teen Area is in a separate glass-enclosed space near the entrance. The two axes are accentuated by a sky light system that reduces energy and provides glare-free light. LEED Gold Rating.
